What Causes Ingrown Toenails and How to Prevent Them

An ingrown toenail is a common condition where the nail digs into surrounding tissue, causing pain and infection. Incorrect nail cutting is a leading cause.
Narrow-toed shoes, trauma and genetic predisposition are also risk factors. Cutting your nails straight across and not too short at the corners is the most basic precaution.
In the clinic, orthonyxia braces, tamponade or packing techniques guide the nail to grow in the right direction. Most cases don't require surgery.
Early intervention shortens pain duration and helps prevent infection. Whenever in doubt, seek professional support.
